I organized and authored a successful U.S. Forest Service grant application that resulted in a $12 million award to the City of San Francisco to launch the 3500 Trees Project. The grant was the single largest award made in California through the federal Inflation Reduction Act’s Urban and Community Forestry Program.
The five-year initiative will plant and establish 3,500 new street trees in low-canopy, heat-vulnerable neighborhoods while creating green job opportunities including training and career pathways for 30 workforce participants. The project represents one of San Francisco’s largest investments in tree planting in decades. It brings together urban forest expansion, workforce development and community partnerships to grow a more equitable and climate-resilient urban forest.
